Welcome to San Francisco! PDF Print E-mail

San Francisco, California is more than just the home of the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz Prison, and Chinatown. It is a bridge from the United States to Asia, an epicenter of the information technology economy, and one of the most politically interesting metropolises on the planet today. Throughout its history, the city has been shaped and reshaped by a series of tectonic shifts. In 1848, during the height of the Gold Rush, massive immigration transformed a small Spanish settlement at Golden Gate into the burgeoning town of San Francisco. In 1906, the city was literally burned to the ground after a giant earthquake. In the 1960s, San Francisco birthed a counterculture movement that shook America and the world. Yet throughout all its quakes, both literal and cultural, the city has remained a bastion of optimism and hope.

Today's San Francisco boasts a seemingly limitless buffet of cultural treasures, architectural wonders and tourist activities. From the San Francisco Pride Festival to the Chinese New-Year Parade to performances at the San Francisco Symphony and War Memorial Opera House, the city always offers great things to do. A trip here would not be complete without a stop at the Fillmore, an historic concert venue where legends like the Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane began their careers.
